We are more than a publisher of comic books. Alongside the graphic novels our Lucha Comics imprint is known for, we publish prose fiction — novels, novellas and short work — for readers who want the same voices in a different form.
Our fiction list grows the way our comics list did: one book at a time, chosen because somebody on the team could not put it down.
What we publish
Science fiction and speculative work
Speculative fiction is where our list started, and it remains the spine of the catalogue. 1985 — the sequel to George Orwell’s 1984 — returns to that world with characters both old and new, and asks what the struggle against Big Brother costs the people still fighting it decades on.
Classic literature, retold
Some stories are worth telling again. The Last Man takes Mary Shelley’s 1826 novel of a world emptied by plague and brings it to a modern readership, in print and as an audiobook. Retelling a classic is not the same as reprinting one: the work is in finding what a contemporary reader needs from a book written two centuries ago, and then earning it.
Horror and the darker end of the shelf
Our Lost Souls imprint carries the mature end of the catalogue — horror, and slice-of-life work that does not flinch. If you have come from our comic books and graphic novels, you will recognise the tone; the prose list simply gives those stories more room.
Romance and character-driven fiction
Not every reader arrives looking for a genre. Plenty arrive looking for a character worth spending three hundred pages with, and our list makes room for books that are carried by the people in them rather than by the premise.
How to read our fiction
Where fiction meets the rest of the list
A publisher that works in both prose and comics ends up better at each. An editor who has spent a year tightening dialogue for a graphic novel brings something different to a manuscript, and a novelist who has watched an illustrator interpret a scene writes description differently afterwards.
That crossover runs through everything we do. The same team that handles script and book editing works across both lists, and several of our titles exist in more than one form — read as a novel, listened to as an audiobook, or adapted into a graphic novel.
Submitting prose fiction
We are always reading. If you have a completed manuscript, or a partial and a clear sense of where it is going, we would like to see it — see submissions for what to send and what happens next.
We are a small press, which means two things worth knowing before you submit. The first is that we read everything ourselves, so a reply takes as long as it takes. The second is that if we take your book on, you are working directly with the people making the decisions about it — the editor, the cover illustrator, and whoever is building the audiobook.
If your project is not ready for a publisher yet, that is not the end of the conversation. Our publishing services exist for exactly that case: editing, cover illustration, layout and audiobook production, available to authors taking a book to market themselves.
